Hearty Welcome to

Burn Hall School

The New Burn Hall School at Srinagar was established in the face of formidable difficulties and challenges after a spell of nine years following the tribal invasion in 1947. This time, Fr. J. Boerkamp was given this task to resurrect the institution: a challenge, which he accepted with remarkable courage and steadfast determination. As the founding father and the first principal of the school, Fr. Boerkamp rendered yeomen service to the cause of education in the valley. It was at the request of Msgr. Shanks, that Fr. Boerkamp came to Srinagar from Abottabad in 1956.

Today, Burn Hall School stands tall in the mind of the Kashmiri society. The school now boasts of top bureaucrats, efficient civil servants, illuminated politicians, eminent academicians and responsible citizens on its roll of Ex-students. We wish that this institution may produce many more wonderful and enlightened citizens for this society.

A REALITY CHECK

Fr. Stalin Raja
Principal

In the New Normal, a question remains:  how long will this masked appearance continue? Look at the realities!

  • Kashmir experienced complete alienation from the rest of the world for few months in 2019. This man-made calamity was somehow overtaken by the natural calamity of the Pandemic.
  • COVID kept apart the dear ones from each other while in many cases separated each other forever without even giving them a chance to bid adieu.
  • A new form of administration in Jammu & Kashmir sans political parties and elections continues.
  • A new mode of schooling, business and economic activities have been adopted and has become part of normal life.

Burn Hall School Education Policy

The Education Policy of Burn Hall School and the Jammu-Srinagar Diocesan Education Society is based on the life of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Gospels. This encompasses the development of the growing consciousness of Human Dignity as the right of every person. This enables us TO LIVE IN FELLOWSHIP AND MUTUAL HELPFULNESS.
The concern is for all God’s people within the local community where the school is situated and especially for those of Christian Faith and the materially poor. Education also includes the development of knowledge and skill enabling a person to be loyal, peaceful and just in this world. In this way, God’s plan for His world may be realized and humankind may attain the fullness of life.
The object of the institution is to impart excellent education. The priests who work in the institution have their most sacred duty not only to educate the mind but also to form the heart and mould the character of the pupils entrusted to their care at the same time keeping in mind the necessity of developing the power of idea and thoughts and initiate students to be ready to shoulder the responsibility of the society and maintain a high standard of honour and integrity of life.

A Note to the Parents

Though a School can do a lot for a child, it cannot do everything. The home is the place where he gets his first education and training. It is the chief place where his character is formed in citizenship. School education indeed promotes the growth, personality and helps to discover and develop the qualities that are in children. In order to secure all that is best in the education of your child, maximum co-operation between the parents and school authorities is necessary. The task of helping your children to become good citizens is done better through mutual partnership between the School and the parents.

The School desires to have your co-operation and your close contact with the respective teachers of your ward in order to develop an atmosphere that is conducive to better and more effective education.

We earnestly request the parents to look into this handbook-cum-diary every day and see to it that the lesson/s and the homework assigned for the next day are completed. The child should be encouraged to cultivate habitual cleanliness in all his work. The teacher will communicate with you through this handbook. Your prompt attention to those remarks is very essential.

Absence of your child from class for attending social function, parties, outings, marriages, etc. is discouraged because it retards the child’s progress and minimizes his respect for regular hard work. As far as possible, fix these events during holidays. Read More
